When:  January 13th & 14th, 2024 from 12PM- 1:30PM

Where:  Light rail station of your choice

What: With the opening of the East Link Starter Line, we’re on a mission to ensure that light rail is easily accessible by walking, rolling, and transit. Move Redmond is currently designing station access maps for each of the light rail stations in Redmond and Bellevue. These maps will be essential tools, helping individuals find their way to the light rail without the need for a car.

We need help with ground truthing walking and biking routes!

Due to inclement weather, our volunteer event was cancelled and has shifted to a DIY volunteer project.

To participate:

1. Go to a light rail station of your choice. We are looking for extra support in gathering data at the Bellevue Light Rail Stations.
2. Review the questions on the Google Form so that you are aware of what to look for. Use the following Google Form link to submit your observations: Observation Form 
3. Select a destination of where you want to go. This could be a school, small business, etc and walk or bike to the destination.
4. Stop along the way to capture your observations & note them in the google form.
5. When you arrive to your destination, choose a different route back to the light rail station so that you are able to collect data for two routes in one outing.

The deadline for submitting your data is February 2nd, giving you ample time to engage in this flexible approach. Thank you for your support

Who: Do you walk, roll, or use public transit in Bellevue & Redmond? Then this project is for you! We are looking for as many volunteers to help with ground truthing biking and walking routes to access light rail.

Washington’s Commute Trip Reduction program requires certain large employers in high congestion areas to provide benefits such as transit passes in order to reduce employee car trips. In the last two years, however, commuting has changed significantly.

How should Washington’s Commute Trip Reduction program build on their good work for post-pandemic commuting? How can we support commuters not currently covered by the program, and make sure riders who do currently benefit continue to ride transit?

We set up a celebration station near the 520 Trail to celebrate our friends who travel by bike!

Celebrate Bike Month on this 3-mile ride to explore bike infrastructure in Overlake. This ride will highlight planned bike improvements in the neighborhood and the gaps in safe infrastructure connecting Redmond to Bellevue. We will debrief at Mayuri after the ride.

Our goal is to make this ride as accessible to newer riders as possible; however, we will be riding on streets with mixed traffic, and may not be appropriate for small children riding by themselves.

Redmond Needs a protected bike network to help people bike for transportation. Let’s build on the wonderful trail network in Redmond and build protected bike lanes so people can get to the places they need to go. Bring your stories of biking in Redmond, or wanting to bike in Redmond and share them with the City Council during the public comment period.

TCC has shifted their usual Ride Transit Month to the I ❤ Transit Virtual Fest. This virtual fest will be held throughout June and beyond and will include a series of events designed to highlight why we love transit and how we can support each other through difficult times.

In 2024, Sound Transit’s light rail will extend to Downtown Redmond. With trains running every 6 minutes from 5am-11pm, the project will cut commute times to Redmond in half. Join GRTMA Members for a briefing from the Sound Transit team about the design of the two stations in Downtown Redmond and share your comments on the designs. 

Bikes are serving a vital role in Redmond right now, whether they are helping essential workers get to jobs or helping people avoid cabin fever, make essential trips or get exercise.

We’ll share more about how Redmond is seeing record numbers of people on bikes, big changes that are coming to our streets and trails, and how you can get involved.

GRTMA, Commute Seattle, TransManage, and Downtown on the Go hosted a COVID-19 Commute Strategy discussion. This round table conversation convened leaders from employers across the Puget Sound who are shaping their commute programs near term response to the crisis.

When more people ride bikes, life is better for everyone. It’s one of the League’s guiding principles, one we seek to achieve through our advocacy, our programs, and our campaigns. It’s why we’re responding to the current crisis with resources for advocates and local businesses while also forging ahead on our core work around federal advocacy and building a more Bicycle Friendly America for everyone.

It’s why this May, the League is still celebrating National Bike Month, because bicycling is more essential to our lives than ever—and because we could all use some bike joy to look forward to. We hope that the hundreds of thousands of you who participate in Bike Month events in typical years continue to do so through virtual, solo, or safely distanced events in May 2020, and beyond.

GRTMA and Redmond City Council member Jessica Forsythe cut a ribbon on Redmond’s new bus routes. Starting March 23, 2020 King County Metro and Sound Transit will operate 3 new routes in Redmond and extend other routes. These changes put over 10,000 more Redmond residents within a short walk a bus arriving every 15 minutes all day long.

Last week GRTMA hosted a small get together to discuss the potential closures and pedestrian detours that will take place in Redmond during the sewer replacement project underneath the Sammamish River Trail. Here’s what we heard:

• 3 years of construction on the sewer underneath the trail between 85th Street and Marymoor Park will start early 2021.
• King County estimates that large segments of the trail will be closed for over a year.
• GRTMA is advocating for the on-street detours to be as comfortable and safe as the trail is today, include adding physical barriers from cars on the routes.

King County Metro is designing a new transit service to make it easier for employees to reach and get around Southeast Redmond, Education Hill, and Downtown Redmond. GRTMA organized a coffee talk for our members in the neighborhoods with the project lead at King County Metro, Corey Holder.
