The Transportation Champions program exists to recognize and reward organizations and individuals in Redmond for their efforts to increase commuter mobility and efficient use of transportation systems.

What is a Transportation Champion?

The population of the Puget Sound region is rapidly growing. With a beautiful landscape, access to a first-rate university and educational programs, and an ever increasing pool of top talent the area boasts abundant opportunity- and with good reason. As the number of people moving about the area grows it is crucial to address mobility concerns as the infrastructure of the region lends itself to geological restrictions. With more cars on the road than ever before it is imperative to invest in comprehensive transportation programs to allow individuals maneuverability across the region without having to drive alone.

A Champion is an individual, company or organization that goes above and beyond to address transportation concerns, specifically driving alone in a single occupancy vehicle. GRTMA believes that people, companies and organizations that utilize and implement successful strategies at mitigating congestion deserve acknowledgement.

To address the unique challenges of individual commuters verses companies, business parks and/or residential communities, GRTMA is running Transportation Champions in two tracts. Commute Champions recognize the individuals who exemplify embody the spirit of a Champion in their workplace and community by their daily commute choices. Mobility Champions is designed for organizations that set standards by offering employees and tenants with exemplary transportation programs.

Commute Champions

When you find alternatives to driving alone, such as carpooling, vanpooling, riding the bus, walking or bicycling, you help reduce congestion and CO2, save gas, and save money.

Through GO Redmond, the GRTMA offers rewards and support to commuters choosing an alternative to driving alone. Commuter benefits include:

  • Personalized Trip Planning
  • Free, pre-loaded one-month ORCA passes
  • Access to the GRTMA/Go Redmond Emergency Ride Home program
  • Regular incentives and drawings

Mobility Champions

Offering transportation benefits has many advantages for employers: attracting and retaining quality employees, reducing parking needs, boosting wages by lowering transportation costs, enhancing company reputation, and lowering the number of employees driving alone. The same can be said for tenants of both residential and commercial properties- it is easier to keep good residents happy through providing solutions to needs like transportation, than to find and replace previous occupants.

Companies, Residential Communities, Commercial Properties and Schools can receive the following rewards for participation:

  • Recognition at the Award Ceremony
  • Featured Champion on GRTMA.org
  • Feature in Champions quarterly newsletter
  • Social media support – including mentions, re-tweets and follows on all platforms
  • Opportunity to be featured as Champion of the Quarter

Additional rewards will be based on the level of achievement to include recognition in local and regional publications, and framed Champions award certificate.

Commuters will also be eligible to compete in a regular Commuter Club. They can self-nominate, or be submitted by colleagues or employers. Candidates will be scored based on the length of time they have been using a commute alternative, how often they commute, and how inspirational or unique their personal story is. The quarterly winners will receive prizes, and be entered to win a grand prize to be awarded at the final Award Ceremony.

COMMUTE CHAMPIONS

Just like every trip makes a difference, so does every person.

At GRTMA, it’s our mission to increase commuter mobility. While we work directly with companies, we know that everyone has different needs and concerns when it comes to commuting. Giving up a single-occupancy vehicle commute may feel daunting, but we are here to help you find the resources to make the switch easy, rewarding and dare we say it, fun.
